DIY No Sew Farmhouse Style Drop cloth Curtains $30 pair The new house in Connecticut has 3 bedrooms and a master suite. Being that we are "empty-nesters" now, we have 3 rooms that can be turned into something else since the kids won't occupy them. I really don't appreciate wasted space so each room needs to be used for more than just a dust collecting guest room. One of the rooms will be called the 'military room' and I am excited to design it in a vintage army style with muted earthy tone colors, along with burlap and a rustic undertone. (If that makes any sense)... no, I am not a designer and don't know the language - I just know what I like. Today I put up the curtains. Paint drop cloths worked brilliantly to go with my theme! Supplies: $10 each - 6x9 Medium Duty 8oz Canvas Drop Cloth (Lowe's) $5 each - Clip Rings - Oil Rubbed Bronze, fits up to 1" rods, 7 in a pack (Walmart) I washed the drop cloths and then hung them - folding the cloth at the top so it will slightly hang on the floor. Can't wait to hang the American Flag made of wood by Flags of Valor! It was a gift from our most awesome neighbor back in New York. Hard to even call him a neighbor, he was more like family. (We miss you Joe!)

My first project in our new home. The Iron and board holder. DIY for $5.88 We have worked tirelessly to get this house in order. Living in chaos and dis-organization doesn't work well for us. We have just been in an uneasy state of mind and a bit cranky because of the chores and tasks involved in the whole move process. There are still a few boxes to go through but I took a few minutes this past weekend to paint a crate so I have a place to store and hang the iron and board. I saw someone else do something similar on pinterest (of course), so here is my version. Supplies: $5.00 - Wood crate (normally $10 but used a 50% off coupon at Michaels) $.88 - Caribbean Sea paint in a small tube 0 - 2 curtain tie-backs that I had laying around 4 - misc screws for the wall and the tie-backs The colors work nicely in the beach guest room! While there is still unpacking and organizing to be done at the new house, I was determined to get out on the ocean today in our new party float. I have watched other neighbors float around day after day and have been waiting for the opportunity to try it myself. It really is just as relaxing as it looks. We only stayed out for about 20 minutes... getting this house in order takes priority right now. But it was SO worth it to take those 20 minutes to relax and enjoy. I still feel like I'm on vacation... None of this feels real yet. May 9, 2018
I rolled into Milford, CT for the first time in my life on May 9th - my better half and I were here to spend time with a realtor looking at houses. At this point in our journey, we had no idea what town we would end up in... we had pinned homes of interest at all ends of the Coastal CT map. Our first night here, the friendly front desk girl at the Hampton Inn recommended SBC Restaurant for dinner. It ended up being a perfect spot for us to enjoy. Casual atmosphere, craft beer, great food, good service, live music, and even a DJ hosted trivia game going on while we relaxed and ate. 29 days after we enjoyed this meal in this restaurant in this town, we closed on our new home - located 2.8 miles away. We are looking forward to our next meal at SBC! www.southportbrewing.com June 18, 2018
If you have to take a phone call, might as well take it on the beach. Here's today's view at Point Beach in Milford, CT. June 18 2018
The sky is blue and the air is warm but if you take a look at the ocean, it will tell you there's a storm on the way. This was my first walk around my new beach neighborhood and we were in awe over the size of the crashing waves. Long Island Sound - Milford, CT June 16 2018
Silver Sands State Park - 5 stars! Free entrance and free parking to a State Park in Connecticut? Yup, it's true! We happened upon Silver Sands State Park during my first outing as a new homeowner in Connecticut and because we didn't have the time to lounge on the beach, bathe in the water, or walk the sandbar, I will surely be back! This beach offers an accessible boardwalk that meets up with the Walnut Beach boardwalk, small sand dunes, bird nesting areas, amazing views of the Long Island sound and a sandbar that will take you all the way over to Charles Island (during low tide only) and you can search for hidden treasure (or so they say). This year brings a new permanent sign to the beach that explains more detail of the sandbar and Charles Island. It offers photos of low tide and high tide so if you plan to take the walk, you can see just what you're in for, as well as a tide schedule. There seems to be a slight discrepancy between the sign, the website information and the local news. Some places tell you that walking to the island is not allowed from May 1 to Aug 31, including the new beach sign...but just yesterday on the local news station on TV, they showed beach goers walking to the island and were highlighting the new sign while offering information on ensuring people head over during low tide only. Leaves the newbie to the area a little confused. For more pics of my day trip to Silver Sands, head over to my instagram page @pointbeachblog June 18, 2018
My very first outing as a new homeowner in Connecticut. Mom, my Aunt and my youngest daughter were here at the new house to help me get settled on the weekend my furniture and belongings arrived. We all spent time unpacking in search of blankets, tv cords and other essentials but needing a break from the chaos, we decided to venture out for a few hours. I didn't want to go far from home because my pups are in a new location and they are really uneasy about this whole moving gig, so we did a quick sight seeing tour on the coast. First stop: Stratford Point Lighthouse. We grabbed a quick photo of the lighthouse and admired the milliion dollar homes that line the water along this dead end road then headed to Short Beach, on the next street over. There was a hefty fee for entrance into the beach so we didn't stay... we didn't plan a beach day, and weren't staying long. #ctbucketlist Next stop: Silver Sands State Park. Click here. Even a rainy day is a good day at the beach. We took a stroll down to the beach at sunset today, taking a break from the unpacking. Still have about a dozen boxes to go and need to get them off the garage floor before any water makes it's way up the street. I snapped a couple black and whites and spent a moment staring at the far away clouds and the storm that's brewing in the distance. Happy Summer! June 20 2018
Not only am I blessed to be in this adorable beach community, and live about 7 houses from the ocean, I also have a marsh in my backyard, right behind my fence. Our realtor considered it a selling point and I didn't realize why until we had been here a few days. Wake up and step out onto the front desk - breathe in the fresh salty air and feel the ocean breeze... but then - step out onto the back deck, relax in the rocking chair and listen to the birds sing. It's so peaceful and quiet. If you close your eyes, you would think you were the only house in the neighborhood, that's how quiet it is. From what I have learned, a Marsh is defined as: "A salt marsh or saltmarsh, also known as a coastal salt marsh or a tidal marsh, is a coastal ecosystem in the upper coastal intertidal zone between land and open saltwater or brackish water that is regularly flooded by the tides. It is dominated by dense stands of salt-tolerant plants such as herbs, grasses, or low shrubs." I am unsure how this marsh will impact our house during flooding, but for right now I will remain focused on the best part of this quiet bird land - the wildlife that I get to see every day! For a few days, I heard the tall grasses moving...from more than just the breeze. I knew something was out there, just wasn't sure what. At around dusk about two weeks after moving in, I finally put an end to my curiosity as I heard the rustling. I ran out back, grabbed a camping chair, put it against my fence and pulled my head over the top. I peeked over to see a beautiful deer right in front of me crunching away on the plant leaves. I didn't make a sound or any sudden movements and she allowed me to watch her eat. I snapped a quick pic. My craft room has two large windows that face the marsh and now I see them often. Two days later I saw Mom and Bambi. I am a lover of all animals so this really brings me more happiness than I expected with my new home. Milford gets better by the day! |
